A full year to look back at

This year has brought lots of visitors at La Peyrère. For this reason, we have been constantly improving the comfort of the living space situated on the first floor of our house which is the place we will eventually be renting as a B&B.

Mike's family was the first to enjoy he privacy of the extra space: everybody had his own room. They left in May and Monique arrived somewhere in August.

We know Monique from the Netherlands, she was our neighbor when we used to live on the Vlijtseweg (first house we rented in Apeldoorn).

Monique was a hairdresser and she used to cut hair at people's place. She is used to driving around. And she was also my hairdresser ;)

Monique drove by herself all the way from the Netherlands and stayed only a couple of days, it was a quick visit so we mostly stayed home enjoying our time together.

Just before she left the Netherlands, I had asked Monique to bring us a bag of Turkish roasted chick peas, a delight! She brought us 6 ;) We do have plenty now, thanks a lot !

In September, Dawn arrived. Dawn was one of Mike's a high school friends in Ontario and they have been in touch now for some years. Dawn was visiting family in the UK and in Germany and she took this opportunity to visit us in the South of France. She stayed one week.

I had never met Dawn before she came to see us. She has a beautiful personality and we really enjoyed her stay with us.

Mike treated her with his famous omelet for breakfast, some toast on the side with a little peace of fruit: this is enough to get a happy smile from anyone.

Dawn left and then it was time for me to go to Montréal.

I stayed 2 weeks in Montreal, at my uncle's place. The purpose of this trip was to organize my mom's things in her new living environment. My mom moved on August 3rd and I arrived end September. I spent my time shopping for things, organizing her bedroom, buying some clothes, meeting with the care givers/nurses and doctors,... When possible , I used the metro or the bus but often it was easier and faster to get around with my uncle's car. But, when I could, I was happy to ride the bike through Montreal's streets to visit my mom at the nursing home. I also took this opportunity to visit various family members and every moment was precious. I am immensely grateful for all the help I have been gifted during my stay. Thanks everyone xxxx

I came back at the beginning of October and by the end of the month, my aunt Maryse arrived. She stayed 3 weeks!

Maryse followed me in my routine and quickly she was helping me with my daily tasks: opening and closing the chicken coop, helping with some autumn cleaning in the garden, walking with Kira, ...

Because I had to work my 35 hours/week, her help was really welcome. We spent lots of time the two of us together, just talking.

Her visit was relaxing because we knew we had the time to enjoy each moment.

For her last day we went to the Christmas Market in Toulouse. We had a beautiful sunny day and from there I brought her to the airport where she was departing for Asia! A globe trotter that one!!

New tenant:

Marianne left our apartment on August 7th. She had stayed with us for about 2 years and moved to her new built home in the next village. We were lucky to find Sovanny (nicknamed "So" ) who started renting our apartment on October 1st. Before her arrival Mike made a garden shed: one side is closed and the other side is more intended for wood storage/lawnmower,... . "So" was happy with the extra storage space. We are building a nice relationship ;)

The animals:

Last May, I have welcomed a new rooster, he was only 3 months old. He became the alpha rooster with gorgeous burgundy and blue/green feathers on a deep black coat.

2024 will bring new projects

  • I have been preparing for extra beehives

  • I will be carding wool to create felted articles

  • not sure yet what will be the place of the gardens in 2024 but one thing is sure there will be some gardening activities

  • I will probably adopt more chickens, expecting some chicks as well

  • hoping to have some renting experience with tourism in our region

  • and ...... some other little secrets: time will tell

Until then we are wishing you all a
